6/12/2012 0 Comments A Pleasant SurpriseTraveling to Hawera to play their 1xt XV has not always been a pleasant experience over the years. Last Saturday saw the 2nd XV venture south with a little trepidation but hoping for the best.
The pleasant surprise was that our referee turned out to be old boy and past Head Boy (1993) Leighton Butler. Leighton is in his second year of refereeing and has moved up to Hawera from Christchurch for a management position at Kiwi. We noted he had the support of Mum and Dad who were there to watch - just a bit like old times. Leighton performed his duties very well, showing a good grasp of the game and showing the potential to go further as a ref. In answer to your unspoken question, we did win with a last minute try and conversion, so we all went home happy.
