3/14/2013 0 Comments One For The RecordsĀLast Friday was Athletics Day and what a glorious day it was, both in terms of the weather and the spirit of the event. There is a gallery of photos from the day on our front page. One of the highlights of the day was the duel between Karl Wright and Matthew Codd in the Senior High Jump. Both students ended up clearing a record height of 1.81 metres and as they are both Y12 students we look forward to the battle recommencing next year. Solomon was the overall winning house and we will have more details in tomorrow.

3/7/2013 0 Comments A Family AffairToday's Thursday Farmer in the Daily News has a great article on the Carey family and their venture in to on line beef sales. While Dad Joe was not an old boy his son's Nick, Brent and Karl have all walked the FDMC corridors. If you are looking for a tasty steak and you want it delivered, why not give the Carey's beef a try. www.greenmeadowsbeef.co.nz 3/6/2013 0 Comments SpookyIn another example of the past meeting the future we have this shot of Beaudy Barrett meeting Piri Weepu when the All Blacks visited the school a few years ago. The student getting his shirt signed is Teihorangi Walden, himself now not too far away from playing 1st class rugby. Thanks to Br Peter Smyth for the pic, we know he follows our old boy sportsman closely and with enthusiasm.
3/4/2013 0 Comments Looking Forward - Looking BackWhile looking for a photo in the archives to promote this Friday's Athletics Sports we came across this little beauty from around 1991. John George is holding the masses enthralled with the exception of future FDMC PE teacher Tim Stuck who seems more intent on the camera.
Speaking of cameras we also note that future TV Political Editor Paddy Gower is on his knees and listening closely, or possibly thinking of what he might say next. This weeks sports day will not have John George at the helm but much of his past organisation will still be evident and of course the students will still be listening to instructions! 3/1/2013 0 Comments Out And AboutMany old boys will recall the annual geography field trips which take place at Years 11/12/13. Yesterday saw this year's Year 11 trip to the big wide world with the students hitting the New Plymouth beach systems in the morning and making their way by bus to the Gawler Farm on Weld Road after lunch.
Marcus Gawler gave the students a great tour of his farm and a good insight into his farming practice. Marcus is not an old boy of the college but holds the distinction of being one of our few parents who can claim to having four boys at school at the one time. We suspect he is still recovering from paying the student fees. |
