6/27/2014 2 Comments Old School WorkshopHere is an image that may bring back memories for older old boys. The sole college workshop circa 1970. Many will remember the sound of the machines competing with noise from the Gym above. we do not recognise the gentleman at the drill (does not look like Brendan "Onions" O'Neil). Can any one enligthen us.
6/26/2014 0 Comments Old Boys vs PlayersWe have been having a lot of fun trawling through the old copies of the FDMC student newspaper from the 1960s. You can expect lots of different tid-bits over the coming months. The image below is of a team list from 1967 for a game between the 1st XV and an Old Boys team. Many key names from the 1960s are represented.
6/25/2014 0 Comments Rep SeasonCongratulations to Du'Plessis Kirifi, Jordie Barrett, Alex Kalin, Corban Porteous, Eli Kneepkins and Steven Snoxell on being selected for the Chiefs Secondary School camp during the next school holidays.
We also hear that old boy Chris Gawler has just been named in the Canterbury Under 21 rugby side. Chris could well be the next addition to our proud front row tradition! A further college rep on the way up is Ben Moore in Year 11 who has recently been named in the NZ U17 Soccer Squad to trail for next year's World Cup. 6/23/2014 0 Comments Something Else To Play ForDu'Plessis Kirifi is pictured left holding the Rick Francis Challenge Shield won by the 1st XV in their 18-17 win over Fielding HS on Saturday. The Shield is up for grabs in every game that the holder plays within the Central North Island Competition. The boys will need to play hard again on Saturday to ensure it stays in New Plymouth rather than heading north to St Peter's in Cambridge. 6/20/2014 0 Comments Trust In JimWith the news today that old boy Jim Hickey has been named the 8th most trusted person in New Zealand (view article here) we could not resist showing you another of Jim's front page designs for the student newsletter, the Echo. This design was published in May 1967 and seems to show that Jim had an interest in things aeronautical even then. 6/19/2014 0 Comments The 1st FiveHere is another gem from the archive room. The photo is from the Jan 27th 1959 Taranaki Herald and introduces the first five De La Salle Brothers to their new Taranaki community. How young and full of zeal they seem, so they may not have yet met their new students!
6/16/2014 1 Comment 10th November 1957The following three photos are taken at the Laying of the Foundation Ceremony for the College in 1957 - an increasingly long time ago!
6/12/2014 0 Comments An Echo From The PastA recent find in the college archives are some old copies of the student newsletter in the 1960s - the Echo. The gallery below shows a sample from 1967 and the observant might note that the Art Editor went on to less drawing and a lot more TV frontman work.
