I wish the team and coaches luck on their trip. Some of the Year 9 boys are tasked with the job of feeding the pigs after school. Currently, the boys are looking at names for them. The most popular suggestion so far are -‐ Breakfast, Lunch and Tea. We are hoping to fatten them up in time for our end of year hostel dinner. A big thank you to the Barrett and Muir families for their generous donation. 8/9/2012 0 Comments Every School's NightmareWe ask for the thoughts and prayers of all our old boys for the staff and students at Spotswood College after what appears to be the loss of two students and their TOPEC instructor. - Daily News Article.
One of the great bonuses of living in New Zealand is that students can experience the outdoors and challenge themselves in so many ways. Schools are active in encouraging these experiences but they also live with spectre of something like this happening. 8/8/2012 0 Comments New GAPpies We have been taking on a couple of GAP students from the northern hemisphere for last 5 or 6 years. They have been of great help in the Hostel and in return we have provided them with an authentic Kiwi experience. Our latest Gaps from Germany arrived last Thursday. Felix Schafer from Luneburg, and Paolo Pappe from Hechingen. Both are looking forward to learning a bit about the kiwi culture and the opportunity to tour around Aotearoa. They are excited about working at La Salle House and have settled in very quickly. The biggest job they have at the moment is learning all the boy’s names. 8/7/2012 0 Comments Looking To the FutureWe enjoy dipping in to the old magazines for little gems of information. This 1985 Year 13 pen portraits page highlights some of the humour to be found in so many of our students. Some, like Alan Brough, have gone on to be professionally funny, for others it is just a hobby.
8/3/2012 0 Comments Speaking UpOne of the proudest traditions at FDMC is the ability of so many of our students to stand up in public and make their point. The photo above is the O'Shea Shield Team of 2003, a good example of a group who had plenty to say.
This week we had the annual college speech competitions with the usual high standard of entrants. The winners were; Years 7/8 - Thomas Hadley Juniors - Polaiu'amea Kirifi Seniors - Tanaka Utete And yes, we are very pleased that two of our Pasifika students did so well. |
