9/14/2012 1 Comment All The Good Ones Come BackThe image and comment above are taken from the 1997 college magazine. We were welcoming back staff member Chris Rata who was undertaking another of his "tours of duty" at FDMC. It is now 2012 and we have Mr Rata back with us again as a relieving teacher.
Chris has been working in Western Australia in the last few years but it is always good to have his enthusiastic view of things back in our staff room. For those past students who can recall Mr Rata we can tell you he still plays a mean guitar.

9/11/2012 1 Comment Feeding Their FacesHostel meals have always been a bone of contention. The average teenage boy always takes some feeding and this photo from the 1997 magazine suggests that Andy Roberts, Shaun Kalin and Karl Carey were able to do well at the hostel table. This year the hostel has instituted a new idea where a different member of staff is invited to lunch with the boarders for a week. A little echo of the past where all boarders, brothers and staff ate their lunch together. 9/10/2012 0 Comments From The NewsletterThe latest newsletter is now available on the News and Happenings page. One of the items is a report from Andrew Xiao about the recent excursion of some of our students to the Bridge Club. Another example of the fact FDMC is not just all about eating your lunch and playing sport!
Finally, after a year of blood, sweat and tears, Dr Frengley permitted us to play against the members of the New Plymouth Bridge Club in a series of games. The intense silence that greeted us was, at first, intimidating. However, it was short lived. We settled into our tables and met our partners for the first <me. At this point we were extremely afraid of disappointing each other. The difficulty of learning the new system of Bridge was dauntng to say the least. Silent bidding, different arrangements and duplicate hands were very foreign to us. However, we adjusted to these changes accordingly. We played many rounds and at the end of the night, went home satisfied knowing we had done our very best. Finding out the result was shocking -‐ none of us expected to be placed in the top 10. However, we had scored from 5th to 7th. Andrew Xiao 5th, Vanshay Bindra 6th and John Frengley 7th. Overall the night was both entertaining and educational and we would love to go again. 9/7/2012 0 Comments One For The FutureThis photo was "lifted" from today's Daily News which ran an article on young FDMC student Zac Reid. Zac is a very promising sportsman who has been recognised with a Cameron Clough Scholarship - more details in the article. Zac is a student in Year 8 and one of a group of students who are already showing great all round ability in academics, sport and culture. The key trait for these guys is their level of competitiveness, something that bodes well for their success at higher levels. 9/5/2012 0 Comments 1st XI Football Going StrongThanks to Director of Football Ricky Green for the following brief report on how the Tournament Week is progressing for our 1st XI.
The 1st XI Football team have had an excellent start to the Lotto Premier National Tournament, topping the group at the end of pool play. In their first game they defeated Takapuna Grammar 4-1, free flowing football saw them win this game comfortably. In their second game they played Nelson College, last years 6th rank team and drew 1-1 in difficult conditions, a great result for the college. In their third and final game they played Wakapitu from Queenstown and easily defeated them 5-2. They now have an important match against St John's, Hastings at 11am. If they win this match they will finish in the 9th - 16th pool which would be an excellent achievement. Good luck fellas. When Ricky is talking about rankings they are the ranking for all schools in NZ, not just the tournament itself. 9/4/2012 0 Comments Better Than The WarriorsA great sports result for the college last week when we defeated NPBHS in the Sec School League Competition.
We would have posted the result sooner but have been hoping to find a photo of the great occasion. Sadly no photo is available but that doesn't change the 42 - 22 result. The guys played really well with special mention going out to Big Ben Sofeni who imposed himself strongly on the opposition. This end of season competition continues this week with our boys taking on Waitara HS tomorrow and Spotswood College next week. we will have a camera at the games. |
