This painting was done in the mid 1850s and shows the maori pa known as Okoare with a settlers cottage in front. The pa site now forms a part of the College farm and has been known for many years as Pa Hill. The foreground would now be the College playing fields.

The painting was used as an illustration in the 1957 publication 'New Zealand: or Zealandia, The Britain of the South'.
