2/26/2015 0 Comments Game, Set and Not Quite MatchYesterday saw a very tight tennis exchange between FDMC and their cross town rivals NPBHS for supremacy in Taranaki tennis. Our team of Cole Hareb, Caleb Fleming, David Barnard and Tyler Paterson shared the singles rubbers 2 each and were one set up in both doubles matches before falling at the last "net". A great effort from the boys in a team that only looks to get stronger over the next few years. under the guidance of staff member Guy Fisher.
2/24/2015 0 Comments A Card From Far AwayThis is one of those FDMC Old Boys are every where posts. John Connell, old boy from the 1960's, visited the College last week. We did not get to have a chat with John but he was able to have a walk around his old school and kindly left his card at the office. A reminder that you are always welcome to pop in and have a look at how things have changed, and of course if you are in Zambia and looking for a vehicle, well John's your man.
2/21/2015 0 Comments In And Out Of The WaterThere was some irony in the fact that our only Olympic swimmer Dylan Dunlop-Barrett should announce his retirement from swimming on the same day as the FDMC swimming sports. You can read more about Dylan's decision here.
For the record, the current crop of swimmers did very well on the day with several school records being broken. Solomon was able to retain it's swimming title but the gap is closing steadily - more details on Monday. 2/19/2015 0 Comments From The ArchivesWe are slowly unearthing more gems from our newly digitized archive material. This one is the Catholic weekly announcing the death of Father Douglas.
2/18/2015 0 Comments Up In The AirThanks to Peter Costello for this photo of old boy Chris Wheatley. Chris was at FDMC in the mid 1990's and has since become an airline pilot with considerable overseas experience. He is currently living in New Plymouth and flying domestic routes for Air New Zealand. The next time you are in the air you might find it is Chris who is at the controls although there is no guarantee that you will get to ride up front like Cossie.
2/16/2015 0 Comments From The ArchivesWe tend to talk about the life of the College as if it began in 1959 with the first day students. The work done at the end of last year on digitizing the College archives provides lots of evidence of all the activity that went on before the school could be built. Below is the cover of a Debutante Ball fundraiser from 1949. Despite Father Francis Douglas having only passed away a few yaers before his name is already attached to the College that would begin in a decades time.
2/13/2015 0 Comments Hot Off The PressesThe first newsletter of the year is out. A great way to catch up on all the latest news. 2/11/2015 1 Comment Top PerformanceThe results are in and our students have matched last year's performance gaining 10 Scholarships in the 2014 National Scholarship exams. Well done to the following academics!
Logan Clarke - Chemistry, Physics, Accounting Aaron Ritchie - Statistics, Calculus Mathew Codd - Calculus, English Patric Klups - Economics Jack Earp - Physical Education Kaspar Van Hattum - Statistics 2/10/2015 0 Comments Opening DayToday was another milestone in the College's history as we formally opened and blessed our three new science labs and two new art rooms. Father Craig Butler performed the blessing and Br. Sir Pat Lynch was here to address the students on behalf of the De La Salle Brothers. All went well, the weather gods obliged and every student was sent home with an ice cream. WE will have some interior shots of the new classrooms in the coming days.
