No Pressure Beaudy!

Picture
Congratulations to Beaudan Barrett on being named the Taranaki Daily News Person Of The Year.

It is a bit of pressure on a young fella still making his way in the world but we are sure that Beaudy is level headed enough to cope.

And The Nominations Are...

We note that two FDMC Old Boys are included in the 6 nominations for the Daily News Person of the Year award. Both Brian Jeffares and Beaudan Barrett have been nominated and although there is a considerable age difference there is no doubt they are both great advertisments for their community. Good luck to both of them.

On a different note, we hear the final of the annual West End Rugby Heads Bowls tournament was between teams lead by old boys Brendan Hart and Sam Barrett. Harty came out on top, although there is some suggestion that he had an influence on the result as the event organiser and rule maker! Last year's victor Michael (Lawny) Lawn was not able to repeat his success. No photos are available from this event in order to protect the guilty.

Next Cabs Off The Rank?

Congratulations to Scott Mellow and Blake Barrett on being named in the Hurricanes Under 17 training squad.

It is amazing how the rugby year seems to begin somewhere in mid December these days.

The Hurricanes needn't worry about the future, we have plenty more where these two came from.

A Job For Life

Picture
Congratulations to old boy and long time supporter of the College Peter McDonald on being made a life member of the Real estate Institute of New Zealand.

Peter is well known for his contribution to his industry and the wider community and is very deserving of any recognition that comes his way.

You can read more details in today's Daily News article.

Lest We Forget

After our sad posting yesterday on the death of recent student Mattheus Van Der Lee, we noticed in today's Daily News a memorial notice for old boy Kane Paltridge.

It is 20 years since Kane was lost at sea while working as a fisherman of the Taranaki coast. Kane was only 17 and working in his first job after leaving the College.

We assure all those family and friends of old boys who have gone too soon that they remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Mattheus Van der Lee, RIP

The passing of an FDMC old boy is always a sad event, but when he is 19 and only one year out of college it is tragic.

Mattheus collapsed while playing Airsoft with a group of his friends last Saturday. Our thoughts are with them and Mattheus's family as they come to terms with this sudden loss.

The funeral for Mattheus will be held at the Catholic Church in Stratford at 11 am this Saturday.

Garden Time

Picture
School is over for the year and it is always a pity that the gardens tend to be at their best when there are so few people there to enjoy them.We picture Br Ollie, and his trusty spade, in honour of our greatest gardener.
