Benildus Rules!

We received the following photo and message from old boy and "media star/personality" Paddy Gower recently. Good to know the "green fire" still burns for some old boys.
Picture
Hi guys,

Out at Airspresso over the weekend. I saw the legendary Jim Hickey from that rival network TVNZ. What a legend, clearing tables on a Sunday.

Anyway in typical Paddy-style I rocked up for a yarn, saying his sister Mary-Jane taught me French.

Of course we talked Benildus - he was captain in '68 and me in '94... The best House, and a production house for broadcasters...

Conrad Smith of course was a Benildus man and while he may have won the World Cup he has not attained the honour of captaining Benildus like Jim and I!!!

I must say yarning to him I wondered if predicting the weather might be more fun than trying to predict politics !

Cheers and keep up the good work

A Solid Victory

After giving away 3 soft tries in the first half the FDMC 1st XV came back well in the second to take out a very deserved 26 to 19 victory over our brothers from De La Salle, Mangere. It was an open and entertaining affair with the FDMC forwards proving dominant in most phases, which all bodes well for the season to come.

The second XV tried hard but were out sized and then out played to go down 47 to 0. It is early days for them and they will benefit from the experience.

Photos as they become available.

A Special Assembly

On April 15 courtesy of Mike Radich we will be holding a special assembly when some of Father Francis Douglas personal effects will be presented to the College.

These will add to our current collection as we seek to continue build up important connections with our History.

In terms of our History of Fr. Frank ( as the Columbans affectionately remember him) it is an important time as last year marked 70 years since his disappearance. The living connections with his family are becoming scarce and so we must make a special effort to maintain these precious links with our past.

A warm welcome is extended to you all who would like to attend this assembly.

The assembly will commence at 10.20 and morning tea will be served afterwards.

For catering purposes would you let the office know by Friday 11th April if you intend to come.

Colour Up

Picture
We had a visit today from old boy Shaun Butler who was the key note speaker at our Academic Colours Assembly. Shaun gave a good speech with a strong message to the assembled "troops". He is currently practicing medicine at Taranaki Base so did not have far to come for the occasion but it was a journey we are pleased he made.

We will have the details of the record number of Colours students next week.
