12/31/2012 0 Comments Cody Sowman, Rest In PeaceWe received the very sad news yesterday of the passing of recent old boy Cody Sowman on Saturday. Cody began 2012 as a member of the CPP class at FDMC before leaving to live in Australia. He discovered mid year that he had a form of cancer and lost his short battle with the disease this weekend. It is a measure of the person that Cody was that his biggest concern through out his illness was the impact it might have on others and his desire to look after and support them. We ask that all old boys and students remember Cody, and his family and friends, in their thoughts and prayers.

12/21/2012 0 Comments Merry Christmas AllBe you on the Tundra or in Taranaki (or any where in between), we wish all our old boys the best for the Christmas season and hope you and your families have a great time doing what you do best.
We will continue to post from time to time over the next few weeks but may be found wanting if the surf is up or the bowling green beckons. Merry Christmas to you all. 12/19/2012 0 Comments Who Is Who?Having swapped the Dux and Proxime Accesit around in yesterday's Daily News they made it all right today with an article on our two scholarship winners. For the record Jonathan Ritchie is on the left and Sam Fastier the right. We also note in the article that one of the other scholarship winners from Taranaki was Matthew Sullivan-Brown who is an old boy of FDMC before completing his senior school at Stratford High School, where we believe he was made Dux. 12/18/2012 0 Comments The Pungarehu KidIt seems that the start of summer is also the time to reflect on the past winter. The Daily News carried a great article on old boy Beaudy last Saturday while Sunday saw Sky Sport's doco on the Rugby World Cup feature fellow old boy Conrad Smith as a key commentator on events.
We can't give you a link to the Sky Sports video but you can view a Daily News video with Beaudy here. 12/17/2012 0 Comments Well Done Pingers! Our last post was about staff member Peter Ingram taking the Y9/10 team to Hawkes Bay, this one recognises the fact that he is still very much a cricketing force himself. Pete and fellow opener Dean Robinson set a new Taranaki cricket record on Saturday by sharing an unbeaten 342 run opening stand against Horowhenua/Kapiti. Pete scored 201 runs an dispacted the ball to all parts of the ground. It is great to have coaches and mentors at FDMC who can demonstrate as well as instruct when it comes to sport and culture. 12/13/2012 0 Comments A Summer TraditionEvery year for a decade or more we have sent our Year 9/10 cricket team to the inter schools tournament in the Hawkes Bay. This year's team, pictured above with coach Peter Ingram, continued the tradition, meeting with fine weather and a fair degree of success.
Having lost to a very strong Napier Boys High team on the first day our guys bounced back to beat Central Hawkes Bay College and St John's, while producing a very exciting last ball tie with Hastings Boys High. There will be a lot of recent old boys with fond memories of this trip and the 2012 team maintained our place as an important fixture at the tournament. 12/12/2012 0 Comments Junior PrizegivingLast Friday was the last day of school for the year and the last school event - the Junior Prizegiving. There were so many parents and supporters at the event we had to send a lot of the students not getting prizes out to play just to make room in the Gym. It was great to have Brother (and old boy) Adrian Watson with us for the occasion. He can be seen here with Patrick Fisher-Evans, a student to watch over the next few years. Patrick took out three of the six special awards made - The Shell Oil Services Science Cup, The Jono Milne Cup for Junior Leadership and the Lasallian Cup. School might be out for the summer but you can anticipate regular posts on this blog over the next few weeks as old boys are always up to something! 12/10/2012 1 Comment Just Another WinWell done to Ethan Bolstad, Ryan Fleming, Josh Barrett, Sam Barrett, Jason Meuli and Ryan Watson for their parts in the Marist United Cricket Teams third Taranaki one day title in as many years. Impressive to have over half the team as old boys and there are quite a few more in the mix and playing for the lower grades at the club. The guys now get to play in the national one day club tournament. More ball by ball details at the Daily News. 12/5/2012 0 Comments A Gift For The FutureThe traditional gift to the college from the departing Year 13 class this year took the form of a house points board, seen above on a wall outside the hostel dining room. It is clever contraption which takes sliding panels that represent different points totals for each house event, and allow students to view a running total of house points. It will be interesting to see what impact this visual prompt has on the inter house rivalry over the next few years. 12/4/2012 0 Comments A Learning SituationThe Condor 7's proved a very positive weekend experience for our rugby sevens team. The results were not as good as we might have hoped but all losses were close and to high ranking sides. The experience gained will stand many of the players in good stead as they will be back at school next year and hoping to get another shot at the title.
The guys lost the Shield Final to Westlake Boys, but as you can see from the photo above, they did not lack for support from the sidelines. |
