Christmas Wish

Picture
The FDMC Community is a large and far flung one. Where ever you are, and however you have been a part of our community, we wish you the peace and joy of Christmas and the fortitude to cope with all those family gatherings.

Bearwood Business

A couple of weeks ago our Bearwood Lanterns  YES business attended the national finals. They didn't take out a major prize but did get to smooze with old boy and Minister of Everything Steven Joyce.

The guys have learnt that networking is a key to modern business.

A Man For The Season

Picture
Now that is a festive suit - as modelled by old boy and current staff member Mike Ingram.

Tis the season to be loud!

Schools Out For The Summer!

Picture
The last act of every school year is the Junior Prizegiving and the 2015 version was as good as ever. Lots of great young students recognised for their efforts and plenty of supportive family there to cheer them on.

Now it is time for a little relaxation but as always we will keep you in the loop over the holiday season - just not quite as often!

Another Good Call

Picture
Congratulations to old boy Paul Williams on becoming Taranaki's fist full time professional referee.

It seems only yesterday that he was kicking a conversion from the Yarrows Stadium sideline to snatch victory from NPBHS in the annual game.

You can read all the details on Paul's elevation in today's Daily News article - here.

A Big Day Out

You know it is close to the end of the school year when you have survived the Activity Day. Some of the old "favourites" such as the Aquatic Centre and the Skate Park remain options but there is always a few new ways to fill in the day. Pictured right is Kaydn Luke (son of old boy Stephen Luke) getting some big air at the Air Zone Centre. It would be fair to say the students handled the foam pit a little better than some of the teaching staff.

Another Legend Retires

Picture
After 26 years of sterling service to the College and it's students our Librarian, Mrs Jean Reed, retires at the end of this week.

Jean has lived through many changes, both in our library and the way that libraries operate, since she first started in 1990. She has always had the best interests of students at heart, whether finding them extra resources or giving them a stern reminder when needed.

Jean leaves the Library in very good heart as a learning centre for the College and we wish her all the best in a well deserved retirement.

An Historic Team Photo

Picture
We posted recently about our first 1st XV, but here is a team photo of great significance to the College which goes a lot further back.

The 1936 St Joseph's Premier Rugby team was coached by one Father Francis Vernon Douglas. He is not the only name of significance in the photo as there are many family names listed who were later to grace the College named in memory of Father Douglas.

We don't have the teams season record but they certainly look like winners!

The Bottom Floor Like Never Before

Picture

Work is progressing a pace on the rebuild of our main classroom block. This image of the bottom corridor is one that no past pupil could claim to have seen. We are now certified free of asbestos and the earthquake strengthening and classroom redesign is under way.
