10/30/2013 1 Comment An Old TraditionAlong with yesterday's photos we came across this great example of an old tradition - the march past. It no longer plays a part in our athletics day celebrations but was a focal point back in the day. We wondered if the main flag bearer was student and past staff member Michael Parsons - can any one confirm (or deny) this?

10/29/2013 1 Comment More Black And WhiteThanks to James Stewart for identifying the group and students in last weeks black and white photo. Today we have two photos, the first we know is the 1966 Athletics Champions, but who are they? The second photo appears to be from the same era but we have no idea what the cups were for or who is holding them. Leave a comment if you have any ideas.
10/25/2013 1 Comment A Little Help PleaseThis is a great photo of one of our soccer teams from the 1960's but can any one give us some details on who is pictured? All details gratefully accepted.
10/24/2013 0 Comments The Smith's ContributeOnce again we raid the pages of the Daily News to bring you an old boy's story. Three generations of the Smith family (Trevor, Conrad, Nathan and his son Ashton) attended a Blokes Breakfast in Stratford to highlight the importance of fathers in the family.
Good to see them all involved in their community. While speeches were made, we suspect the real impact comes from the example they set. 10/21/2013 0 Comments Treading The BoardsNews through last week that current FDMC student Tanaka Utete has been selected as one of 24 Kiwi students to visit and perform at the Globe Theatre in London next year. Tanaka has been a stalwart of cultural productions in his time at the College and we know he will make the step to the very biggest stage with his usual aplomb. More details on Tanaka's trip from the Daily News - here. 10/17/2013 0 Comments An Old Boy Pops InGreat to have a brief visit today from Old Boy and Dux (1992) Bevan Taylor. Bevin is back visiting his folks in Stratford but is currently resident in Melbourne. Having done his university study in Aeronautical Engineering, Bevin has been involved in a range of careers in several countries in Europe. He is currently running his own business specialising in outfitting VIP planes for the high and flighty.
Just another example of FDMC students going on to do their own thing and make an impact on the world as they go. 10/16/2013 0 Comments Exam Time AgainEvery year about this time we like to remind Old Boys of the fun they are missing by no longer having to sit "practice exams". Just a little thought to brighten your day.
10/14/2013 0 Comments MAD Day MemoriesThe end of Term 3 has become a traditional time for the College to celebrate Mission Action Day (MAD). The photos below document this year's efforts with the standard format of liturgy, house singing, sponsored walk and a reviving sausage. This year's event raised around $25000 to help with the work of the Missions. 10/11/2013 0 Comments As One Door Opens...... another door closes.
Today's Daily News illustrates the old adage with the news that recent Old Boy Shaun Sullivan has been named to make his debut for the Taranaki Cricket team, while Old Boy Shane Cleaver has been forced to hang up his rugby boots with on going concussion issues. An over view of Shane's career can be read here, while we hope that Shaun can go on to create his own sporting legacy. 10/9/2013 0 Comments A Character Gone To RestNews this week of the sad passing of Father Joe O'Riordan in Ireland. Father Joe did several tours of duty as College Chaplin and will be remembered by students for his great sense of fun and his approachability. Father Joe entered in to the spirit of the College from day one and will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.
May perpetual light shine upon him And may he rest in peace |
