A Fanatastic Xmas Mixer

What a great night! Fantastic to see well over 300 people turn up to the FDMC Foundation Xmas Mixer and as the photos can attest a good time was had by all. The organizers Daniel McDonald, Scot Ireland and their team did a great job of putting the occasion together, and it was wonderful to see such a range of FDMC community members there.

As expected Paddy Gower kept us all entertained and our panel of All Blacks held the crowds attention for well over an hour of insight and laughter.

The auction that followed went very well with both All Black jerseys going for great prices ($4500 and $6000). The auction lot that most excited Paddy and the farmers in attendance were the 40 Bales of Silage which were finally knocked down for $100 a bale. In the final wash up the event will generate a a sizable kitty to kick the FDMC Foundation into its next stage of development.

With this event going so well there were many old boys keen to see something similar happening on an annual basis. Watch this space.
Lots of photos were taken so the following are just a sample of what we will post in the next few days.

Striking The Right Note

Thanks to Jane Connolly for the following report and well done to Dominic and David.
Tonight was the Muriel May Competition. Francis Douglas Memorial College was well represented by Dominic Jacquemard and David Codd. The other two contestants were Oak Jones on Piano and Emma McNab on flute. All four gave fabulous performances but the winner for this year was our 2016 Cultural Captain- Dom. He gets $10,000.00 to spend on furthering his career/ instrument etc. (He’ll be good for a loan?!?)
As always he was a modest winner, but this award has topped off what has been an amazing year of success for him. So proud for him and his parents.

I am sure David will enter the Competition again, and as with the other contestants performed his programme of works with passion and panache.

A Powerful Farewell

Thanks to old boy Joe Cronin for this message and video link.
You might remember this bloke he was a few years behind us at FDC and his old man coached Basketball ( I think that’s the game the tall blokes played while we were doing our scrum training, or was it raiding your mums cooking tin!!! )
He was a good bugger, bloody tragic really, but least the lads gave him a good send off

School's Out For Summer

The Junior Prizegiving has just concluded and students, parents and staff are off for their summer break. 2016 has been a good year for the College, and we wish all our community a relaxing few weeks before we come together again to make 2017 an even better year.

An Opportunity Too Good To Miss

A number of famous old boys are going to be back for the holidays so a few people have seized the chance to bring everyone together and raise a little money for rugby at FDMC. There is not too much lead in time so you will need to get your tickets from Little Fed, any McDonalds Real estate office or email your ticket requests to fdmcfoundation@gmail.com.

Tickets to the evening would make a great early xmas present and you may be able to purchase something more historic and substantial at the auction.

See you there.

A Tragic Loss

We were saddened to hear of the tragic loss of old boy Michael Toon last week. Michael was drowned in the Manawatu river while trying to rescue his daughter who had fallen in. The full details can be read by clicking here.

Michael attended FDMC in the late 70's and early 80's, with his brother Graeme following on a few years later. His Father Dennis will be remembered by many for his time as Senior A basketball coach.

Rest assured our prayers and thoughts are with the family at this very sad time.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.

A Fond Farewell

We farewelled Peter Costello, Graham Blanks and Leigh Hucker this week and it was great to see a number of past students and staff take the time to come along and be part of the occasion. The following photos might give you a feel for what was a special night.
