6/13/2012 0 Comments Well Done Brother!News arrived yesterday of Br Peter Ryan's appointment as the Principal of Oakhill College in Sydney from 2013. Br Peter who is a past Principal at FDMC has been "running the show" at Bankstown since leaving us in New Plymouth. We stand to be corrected, but we are pretty sure Br Peter is an old boy of Oakhill and has also spent some time there as a teacher. We know he will bring the same zeal for Lasallian education to his old school as he did to his first principalship in the wilds of Taranaki. We stand corrected - Thanks Br Dec. Br Peter Ryan was not a student at Oakhill College ....... but there was a time when on the same property the Catholic Teacher Training College existed. It was there that he did those studies. 6/12/2012 0 Comments A Pleasant SurpriseTraveling to Hawera to play their 1xt XV has not always been a pleasant experience over the years. Last Saturday saw the 2nd XV venture south with a little trepidation but hoping for the best.
The pleasant surprise was that our referee turned out to be old boy and past Head Boy (1993) Leighton Butler. Leighton is in his second year of refereeing and has moved up to Hawera from Christchurch for a management position at Kiwi. We noted he had the support of Mum and Dad who were there to watch - just a bit like old times. Leighton performed his duties very well, showing a good grasp of the game and showing the potential to go further as a ref. In answer to your unspoken question, we did win with a last minute try and conversion, so we all went home happy. 6/11/2012 0 Comments Dean Of ChampionsGreat photo and article in Saturday's Daily News, fronted by old boy and current Director of Sport at FDMC Tim Stuck.
Stucky told it like it was and it is good to see the quality of our students being recognised and celebrated. You can read the full article by clicking on this link - Daily News. 6/8/2012 0 Comments Another Dylan RememberedThe trophy pictured opposite is named in remembrance of past student Dylan Walsh who was taken from us far too early. The trophy is to be played for between FDMC and St Pats Town Under 15 rugby teams. This is very appropriate as Dylan was a talented player who stood out at the U15 level before he became ill. The disappointing thing is that we were not able to win the trophy at the first attempt, St Pats proving to big and strong on the day. While they have taken the trophy with them for now we will be heading to Wellington next year to bring Dylan home. On the subject of annual clashes, next Wednesday is the big NPBHS v FDMC exchange which takes place this year at FDMC. A range of rugby and football games will be played at 1 pm with the big 1st XV clash kicking off at 2.20. We look forward to seeing a good number of old boys back on site. 6/7/2012 0 Comments Well Done Dylan! This morning's Daily News brought use the great news that recent old boy Dylan Dunlop-Barrett is to become our third Olympian old boy. Dylan has been named as part of the 4x200 Freestyle Relay Team who will find themselves pushing their limits at the London Olympics.
It is a great reward for a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work. In his school days Dylan always impressed with the way he was able to squeeze so much in to a day while keeping a level head and a smile on his face. Traits that will stand him in good stead while taking on the might of the swimming world. 6/5/2012 0 Comments Haka UpFounder's Day celebrations came to a conclusion on Friday with the inter house Haka Competition. Each year the performances get better as students become more familiar with our college haka. The photo above shows just how much students get into their performance.
For the record, Solomon was the winner, although there does seem to be an advantage to performing last! 6/4/2012 0 Comments You Little Beaudy!Well done that man! Like his family and the rest of the Taranaki community we are proud and excited about Beauden's naming in the All Blacks squad. It has come a little sooner than expected but we know Beaudy has the maturity to deal with everything that is coming his way. You might want to keep an eye out for Rugby Centre this week on Sky, seems they want to know how a little school like FDMC can turn out solid characters like Beaudy and Conrad. We know the answer is that they are just two of a great many, but it is nice that some one is asking the question. More details on Beauden's selection at the Daily News. 6/1/2012 0 Comments Happy Founder's DayToday is Founder's Day (sometimes referred to as Pie Day for obscure reasons) and the whole school has just returned (by bus) from St Joseph's where we have had a celebration mass. Part of the celebration is the fact that the four De La Salle Brothers pictured above were able to join us for the event.
Br Adrian, Br Jack, Br Colin and Br Declan are all in fine form and are taking part in proceedings like they have never been away from the College. The College is now about to enter into a variety of cultural activities culminating in the inter-house haka competition. It is anticipated that students will then be given a celebratory pie, as is our custom. We will have more news and photos concerning these events early next week. |
